Garden sculpture win the first Art Eat-Up grant [2010-12-10]

Thomas John Carlson and Pro ArtsThis rendering of Thomas John Carlson's gGarden Landscaping Sculpture, Garden Sculpture, Metal Garden Sculpture, Coper Garden Sculpturearden sculpture helped him win the first Art Eat-Up grant.

The first winner was Jersey City Art School founder Thomas John Carlson who proposed building a metal sculpture in JCAS's garden that would support plant structures for artistic study. Carlson was grateful for his experience with Art Eat-Up and said, "As a participant, the opportunity to speak about an artistic project to a receptive audience is invaluable."

Carlson also noted, "As an attendee the opportunity to listen to an artist's idea is just as important as visiting a show to visit the finished product. The process of an artist's idea is often overlooked, but certainly not at this event."

The last winners were Sophie Penkrat and Anne McTernan of the Harsimus Stem Embankment Preservation Coalition. The coalition aims to transform the embankment, a stone structure that used to support Pennsylvania Railroad trains, into a community space.

Pro Arts is currently looking for artist to propose new projects at the next Art Eat-Up. Those interested must follow the instructions on Art Eat-Up's Call for Proposals and submit their proposals before January 1st.
